Edit Roles and Groups Assignment

You can edit Role and Group assignments in either global or Project scope. Access by Roles and Groups Assignment is generally considered preferable to assigning access to individual users.

Tip:

If you have global administrator permissions for the repository, but you are editing Role and Group access in the Project scope, then the appearance of some items in the Roles and Groups Assignment list is somewhat different than for administrators having just project-scope administrator permissions. Global administrators see Roles prefixed with a project ID — myproject-project_user, for example. A project administrator sees the same role rendered as project_user.

  1. Open the repository or project you want to manage and navigate to User ManagementAccess Management.

  2. In the top part of the Access Management page, browse to the repository folder or file for which you want to edit Role assignments and select the item. The selected folder or file's SVN access details appear in the lower pane.

  3. In the Roles and Groups Assignment section, click (Edit). The table of currently assigned Roles and Groups become editable. Each row of the table corresponds to a Role or Group and the permissions currently assigned to them. The last row lets you specify a Role or Group and their permissions to add to the currently selected folder or file. Columns correspond to user role and permissions. Check boxes correspond to enabling (selected state) and disabling (deselected state) each permission.

    Tip:

Deny All overrides the other permission settings and revokes all permissions for the selected folder or file.

Add Role and Group assignments

  1. Make sure you are editing the correct folder or file - select it in the top pane of the Access Management page. If the Roles and Groups Assignment table is not editable, click the (Edit) icon on the section header.

  2. In the last row of the table, click the icon to add a new row. Select the Role or Group that you want to add to the access file from the list in the Role or Group column. (For information see Configure User Roles and Create a User Group. )

  3. Select the check boxes corresponding to the permissions you wish to assign to the added Role or Group. The options are:

    • Read - Select to assign read-only permission, clear to revoke it.

    • Read & Write - Select to assign read and write permission, clear to revoke it.

    • Deny all - Select to deny all permissions, clear to revoke denial.

  4. If you want to add another Role or Group and set their permissions, click the icon in the Actions column to add another row to the table. Select the Role or Group and assign permissions as described above.

  5. Click Save in the lower pane's toolbar to save changes from the GUI to the SVN access file.

Tip:

This can grant members of a User Group the ability to access SVN folders through an external tool.
