View the initial planning scope

The initial planning scope is represented using an activity containing design, manufacturing, and process elements:

  • Activity

Activities are located in a build element. An activity is a measurable amount of work (for example, assembling all or part of a rudder) associated with a collection of manufacturing and process elements and their related work units. An activity describes the high-level work performed to manufacture the product. On average, you may have 50 activities per build element.

    Note:

This is a different object type than the activity object found in Teamcenter Manufacturing Process Planner.

  • Manufacturing element

Manufacturing elements are located in an activity. On average you may have 100 manufacturing elements per activity. In the MBOM specific view of the structure, the manufacturing elements contain the associated design components and design features.

  • Process element

Process elements are located in an activity. On average you may have 100 process elements per activity. In the BOP specific view of the structure, the process elements contain the sequence of operations performed in the activity. For example, it contains the sequence of operations to weld two parts together.

Although an administrator defines the initial build elements and activities, these objects can be modified or additional objects added by a senior planner using the Work Unit page in Next Generation Planning.

Note:

All planners use activities as the scope to perform their work.

After you navigate to an activity, the activity page displays with this basic layout:
