A .bmp preview of an item, item revision and/or dataset can be displayed as a thumbnail. Thumbnails of a selected item, item revision and/or dataset display in the Summary tab within Teamcenter Navigator.

There are two ways to create thumbnail previews:

1. On the client machine (Windows only)

2. Using Dispatcher Services. Dispatcher Server must be installed on a Windows operating system.

The illustration below displays a .bmp preview of a selected item revision containing a CATProduct dataset. The .bmp file is added as a Named Reference under the dataset.

Thumbnails can only be created for files that have been imported. Thumbnails can be updated for non-modified documents by performing a force Save in the Save Manager.

For example, an assembly in CATIA contains Prod1(Part1,Part2) and is saved in Teamcenter.

Thumbnails are created for Prod1, Part2 and Part2.
The geometry of Part1 is modified in CATIA and saved in Teamcenter.
Only the thumbnails of Part1 are updated, even though the thumbnail of Prod1 has been modified.
