Configure synchronization overview

Some Polarion users need to connect with one or more supported third-party systems, such as Atlassian Jira, HP ALM, or IBM DOORS via a Polarion Connector. Such connections, and the data synchronization they enable, help to maintain traceability and process workflow across system boundaries. Users of third-party systems leverage their current tool investments while gaining the advanced lifecycle management and traceability provided by Polarion.

Here is a brief overview of the process of configuring a Connector for synchronization across systems.

  1. Configure a Connection.

  2. Configure a synchronization pair.

  3. Configure Polarion settings.

  4. Configure the settings of the connected system.

  5. Adjust some general settings.

  6. Map Work Item types, fields, and values of Polarion to types, fields, and values of the connected third-party system.

After the configuration is done, you need to understand:

Data folder backup

Before you begin using any Connectors, be sure to have your system backup administrator include the Connectors data folder of your Polarion installation in routine backups. Losing Connector data will result in items being recreated rather then updated when systems are synchronized.

For details, please refer to Backup Polarion data, especially the Connectors Data section.

Tip:
  1. Be sure to read through all the topics about Connectors and synchronization before configuring and creating a synchronization pair, so that you become familiar with all the capabilities.

  2. Spend some time planning out your data synchronization between Polarion and the third-party systems. As already stated, ensure you have a backup process in place, in the event you need to return to a previous state.
